Programme A: Feed for Life Initiative

Programme mission statement:

Delivery of pasteurised, donated breastmilk to in-hospital patients and the equitable re-distribution of DBM to infants in public sector facilities.

Programme goal:

Providing equitable access to donated breastmilk for private and public-sector patients.

The Feed for Life Initiative human milk-banking model pioneered by the SABR is both replicable and sustainable in all hospital settinsg both public and private. This altruistic human milk banking system has yielded the most effective impact in low-resourced public hospital settings housing large NICU and in rural areas, as illustrated by the decade-long human milk-banking partnership with the Provincial Departments of Health of South Africa.
